Madrona’s Roots

The madrona tree is native to the Pacific Northwest. This beloved species with its striking colors and versatile bark and berries has long offered sustenance, curatives, and shelter to peoples and animals of the region. The madrona is rooted principally in the Pacific coast due to a complex interdependence between her roots and the coastal soil. She is the perfect symbol of interconnectivity between all living things in the Salish Coast.

Madrona Gifts is fashioned on a similar premise of interconnectivity. Our business depends on the talents of local artisans who themselves rely on the bounties of the region we inhabit. These bounties sustain us all, and we in turn protect and sustain them. This model of sustainable, community-centered commerce is at the root of what we do; values-based gifting is at the heart of it.

Our Story

Hi! I’m Kirsten, the solopreneur behind Madrona Gifts. I started this business in the midst of the pandemic, when I had a strong desire to connect to my community and immerse myself in the things that matter. As I watched the global conglomerates snatch up an even greater share of the online marketplace, I knew there had to be a better way. Coming back to community was the answer for me: Promoting local goods made by local folks, shared in a sustainable way.

Conscious consumption is “the practice of making informed buying decisions that reflect one’s values and have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the environment”. That is our mission here. We’re so happy to have you along.

We acknowledge, with humility, that the land of our region today is the territory of the People of the Salish Sea. Their presence is imbued in the waterways, shorelines, valleys, and mountains of these traditional homelands of the Coast Salish People. May we nurture our relationship with our Coast Salish neighbors and uphold the shared responsibilities to their homelands where we all reside.

Sharing the Bounty

We’re excited about sharing the bounty, not only in the wealth of flavors and talents from this region, but also in returns to our community. In addition to sourcing exclusively from local merchants, we dedicate a percentage of sales of our Curated Gift Boxes to a variety of local social and environmental causes. You can see which cause each gift box supports in its description details and view a list of all organizations we support here. We strive to do well by doing good, for our partners, our community, and our planet.
